We were talking at work yesterday about where we grew up and what folks missed. Do you think some of the traditional foods are all that?
What regional delicacy do you feel should not be missed... Which one is easy to by pass?

Any chicago pizza fans or does ny pizza win out?

Florida orange juice or California?

Have you had poi?

My favorite local treat is an It's It Icecream sandwich http://www.itsiticecream.com/
I don't know if you can buy them outside of this area. My husband used to work with a guy whose wife's family owned the company. She always kept their work freezer stocked with treats!
My 2 favorites from "home" (Tucson) are green corn tamales and Eegees http://www.eegees.com/ I know Eegees are a Tucson only thing. They have the best sandwiches and slushes. We used to get a party pack of the slushes, add vodka to it and it was an excellent summer pool party treat. I've never seen the green corn tamales any place besides Tucson.

One local thing I wish I liked more is wine. We are so close to Napa Valley and all the great wineries. I like the idea of drinking wine and going wine tasting, but when it comes right down to it I just don't like the taste. Whenever we have comapny that wants to go wine tasting I volunteer to be the designated driver!

Hi Sharon,
My husband is headed to Tuscon for a sales meeting. I will have to tell him about your recommendations. My brother lives in New Mexico and while visiting him one summer we had green Corn tamales. Are the ones you like filled with green chiles and Cheese too?
Pool party slushies are a winner... Here most have rum... Must be the Caribbean influence

Hi scout nut,
You know I would have guessed cafeterias were southern! Learn something new everyday! I love and eat at cafeterias.
Do anyone else... Love how they have desserts right next to salads and breads last! I love getting veggie plates and sweet tea ;)

Doesn't Philly have TastyCakes .... Twinkies fall behind them!

I don't think it is reserved to Chicago. Many other cities on this side of the pond
