I guess I was foolish to think that when I became a life member right when I got out of grad school(meaning a big donation) that would end it. I think that made for more calls and begging. No, I don't give; right now about 80% of my income goes to ds's tuition so that'll just have to do for now!

I give my post-graduate university several $100s each year, when they call. The money is earmarked for engineering student aid (i.e. bursaries & scholarships) only. I do not give any money to my under-grad university. My DH also give money to his university each year.

Oldest dd is a UC alumni for undergrad and is a grad student there now. I'll have to share this article with her and see what she says about donating. Right now, as an unemployed poor grad student, I'm sure donating money to the college is the furthest thing from her mind. I like the idea of requesting that it go for scholarships.

My DD is not giving any money yet either. Eating comes first.
