Apropos of the news out of Japan and CA:

Have you been in an earthquake?

Prayers for the people going through this in Japan. I've not been in an earthquake but in May 1987 (when I was 8 months pg with Jason) there were some 'tremors' right here in central IL. Apparently there's a fault line somewhere down around St. Louis. It was enough that the stuff on the shelves vibrated.

It's downstate further, the New Madrid fault, but it hits here in seconds. Felt it a few times, but not like one in California years back.

Those poor people in Japan...

We were stationed in Japan twice and went through a 7.3 quake there.

I remember being at Camp Sullivan for Girl Scouts in about 4th grade, staying overnight, and there were twin funnels coming at each other. We girls thought it was cool - the leaders were trying to herd us into the barn on site to keep us safe. Quite the experience. And I remember another that took the roof off of the high school in Oak Lawn...

Very shocking footage — I guess tsunamis are so rare comprehending what we are seeing when it happens is very difficult.

Living on the coast I do know the power of a storm surge... Unreal

I can’t get the pictures out of my head of the farm land in Japan miles away being inundated.
