Hello All, My mother comes to Florida for 3 months every winter. I flew to NC to drive her down right after the new year. We stop along the way for her to visit her friends and i got to see my neices new daughter. Before she even got in my front door she fell and broke her right arm. Her dominant one too. So i have been working as a nurse in my free time between my own job. My youngest and his wife came in over the weekend to help since my husband travels too. Meanwhile here at ivillage: There was news on the ivillage forum from our director Here is her latest update: December was an interesting month around iVillage -- change of leadership, re-focusing of goals, re-prioritizing projects. The most important thing we have to do with message boards right now is improve their performance (and by that, I'm talking about the slow page load times, and the way we're found in Google) relative to all of As you know, the amount of data we imported from Lithium was staggering. This huge database is slowing everything down -- not just the boards, but the whole site, at times. So the call has been made to lighten the load. We'll be removing older and inactive THREADS from the boards, starting (probably) next week.  Here's the list of what we're KEEPING: ·         All threads created since the move to Drupal last October ·         All of the Food channel (we already did a big purge there last year) ·         Any thread with a reply on or after 1-1-2011 (So if a thread was created in 2003, if it had a reply in 2011, it stays.) ·         About 1000 other threads that don't fall into any of the above 3 categories, but we've identified them as having value in Google (most are in Love and Sex) Again, this only impacts threads. Right now, the team is doing a test run on the data in QA. If that goes smoothly, we'll get to work on the live site. I'll post an update here when that starts. It will take about 2-3 weeks, moving threads in batches, to get through them all. Our long-term plan is to have old threads available in a read-only archive, but that's a huge project in and of itself, and unfortunately I don't even have a time estimate for that. After this database project is finished, I can get back to requesting fixes to the features of the boards. ;) Stay tuned!>>>>>>>>>>> I have to go move my garden hoses on my eggplants and take the pound puppy my boys gave me for Christmas for a walk. Fill me in on your week. Staying warm? Made any chili or soup lately? What is for dinner tonight? I think we will be have scalloped eggplant.

I hope your Mom is on her way to recovery. That sounds painful! It's warming up a bit here in CA, but it's been rainy. I don't mind the rain, except from 8:00-8:20 every morning when I having to do my morning duty of crossing guard at school. Then I'm not crazy about it! In Dec., I made a bunch of meals I found on Pinterest in anticipation of my knee surgery. Each recipe made 2 meals and they were all things that you dumped ingredients in a ziplock bag, froze it and then put it in the crockpot when you were ready to eat it. One was a chicken taco soup that was really good. We ate one bag worth and I still have another in the freezer. Next week is our monthly potluck at work, and the theme is soups and salads. I'll cook the taco soup for everyone.

Hey there.

I haven't posted in quite some time- I've been having login issues with ivillage (and i guess a whole lot of other people).  I did manage to find 1 computer that allows me to do so.

Elle- I'm sorry about your mom. I hope she's feeling better now.  Mine came and visited over Christmas too.

And it's cold here.  We got a few flurries.  There might be more coming.  You just never know,  the last time we were supposed to get a "lot" of snow (like an inch) we got less than a dusting.  Too warm and dry.

Dinner tonight- probably leftovers.  Doesn't make the almost 16 year old happy but- oh well.  We have food in the fridge that needs to be eaten.  I did promise her that for her birthday next week we will NOT have leftovers

Dd went back to school last Saturday, she's been in classes now for almost a week.  She did really well last semester :)  I'm hoping maybe she could be eligible for another scholarship or so.  It would be nice- considering just how expensive this school (that she loves) is.

My dd too has found a "friend".  She says he's a "boy that's a friend".  Uh-huh.  They were on facebook EVERY SINGLE DAY when she was on break.  She texted him.  It's nice- but I told her that if something does "happen" between them- to PLEASE remember that you are in school to get a degree, and so is he.  He's a sophomore- same major as her (music ed).  Seems nice enough, at least from what she's said.  I'm hoping that maybe we can meet him next month when we go there for her winter orchestra concert.  He has to work it, all music majors are required to help out with all of the concerts that the music dept puts on.

Sorry to hear about your mom. Yes it's cold here in central IL. Been down in the single digits at night. Yesterday it made it up to 33 but that's the warmest it will be for a few days. It's been a couple weeks since I made soup but we do like that in the winter. Last night dh had a business dinner, I made Justin ham melts, and I had gone out to lunch and ate way more than I typically do at lunch so I bypassed dinnerTongue Out.

SUE - that's great that your ds has a girl interested in/flirting with him. Even if nothing comes of it it's a nice ego boost after the painful break up.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Plenty cold here - 17 high yesterday.  Thankfully today is a little warmer; already 31.  Yes, I made potato soup (mix) last weekend and did the recommended add-ins which made it way too rich! (1 cup bacon, 3/4 cup cheddar, 1/2 cup sour cream to 8 cups of soup)  But it's very, very good (after we each had one cup I froze the rest)

Chilli sounds like a good idea too - I'm sure ds would love it as usually I make 2 pounds of meat worth and he gets about 80% of it.  Maybe I'll do that for him this weekend.

Otherwise busy at work. DS is back in class (2nd week of jr year spring semester) and sounds like he found a girl yesterday in one of his classes that took an interest in him, which is great as he's been really down since mid Oct when his gf of 26 months dropped him for no apparent reason (super devastated as she always asked him, we're never going to break up, right? and then she does it out of the blue). He's been dragging, hating his job (lifeguarding 3.5+ years and being given awful hours), in constant pain with his fibromyalgia, etc.  So fingers crossed that things are a teeny bit better now. She's tellng him he should help be a summer counselor at the Y with her and help with some art club so he seemed really excited about the diversion. I figure both are great as he eventually wants to teach/work with kids (he's working for the Y now so it'd just be an internal move).

Sorry to hear about your mother--how old is she?  My mother broke her arm a couple of years ago (she was 85) just falling in the back yard.  she lives w/ her sister.  My aunt said that my mother just came in the house very calmly and said "I think I have to go to the hospital."

It is FREEZING up here in Boston--I think 12 degrees.  I hate the cold but I can deal with this better than snow cause you just put on more clothes--I hate when I have to be somewhere and it snows & I have to go out & shovel, plus it's dangerous to drive in.  I don't know if I'll be having to make dinner tonight since my son is going to his dad's.  Last night he asked me "Mom, when I go to college, will you ever cook for just yourself?"  I suppose I will have to--can't just be eating sandwiches & frozen dinners every night.
