Gamegaga had posted in the how are the freshmen doing thread that her DD was going to be coming home.she got me curious What about Everyone one else, your college student staying on campus? Going to a football game or new semester orientation concert? What about those at home? Having a family picnic? a family tradition? Going to a park? Shopping the labor day deals? Does your pool close after this weekend? Do you pack away your white shoes and pants with Labor Day?

Mine isn't on campus and is about 2.5 miles from home - we will see him Monday when we have a family pool party, hopefully with his gf (of 2 years) as well - she goes to his old school, which is about 8 miles from us, and lives just off campus there. (and yes, pools close after this weekend; we'll probably keep ours open a few more weeks, esp with the heat we've had, and yes, white shoes and pants and shorts don't get worn after Labor Day!)

Mine is supposed to go back to college on Monday, but his long-awaited road test is on Tue afternoon, so instead DH will be taking him up to school right after that.  It's not the ideal way to start the semester, but he is a junior and can handle it.  It's super-important that he get his driver's test out of the way - he wants to stay up at school next summer, which will be hard to do without a car.

I'm guessing dd19 will try to relax a little, but she's defintely not coming home (too far for a weekend visit). She's been tweeting/blogging/writing about the Republican convention all week (and she's not a fan!) for the school newspaper (she's the political columnist) and every Friday she has a dinner/event at the Honors College for mentors and mentees. Combined with working and classes, it's been a pretty full week!

Frankly, I just want to relax and get all the back-to-school stuff organized for ds12 and ds10. The first week means we're drowning in forms to be filled out and books to be covered..  We're also in the midst of a refi on our house (more paperwork) and ds12 is in his first week of cross country, so maybe helping him with running and stretching...  The boys are off Monday and Tuesday, which will be a nice break.

Wow, I didn't know that still happened...but what do I know? Here in SoCal we wear white and flipflops year round. Maybe we're supposed to put away our white flipflops?lol The pools close for kids' rec swim in another week or so but there are always a few open for public lap swim.

As for the CS', won't be seeing either of them this weekend. DsGS turns 29 on Monday so I will talk to him; dd will be working all day Saturday but I don't know what she's doing the rest of the weekend.

Actually, we decided to move DS into his apt on Monday and bring him back home with us.  Then DH can take him up again after his road test on Tues.

I put away the white pants and skirts soon by mid-September.  Here in NY, it starts to feel like you're pushing it a little by wearing summer clothes when it's getting chilly at night.  Some leaves are starting to yellow already!

DD22 hasn't started classes yet, but she is thrilled that there is a 3 day weekend. She usually spends the weekends with her boyfriend's family (live about an hour away), so I'm not sure if she will come home Monday or Sunday. She's still getting into the swing of teaching and having her own classroom. She comes home tired every night, so I imagine her day off will be spent just relaxing. DD19 has residents who have signed up to do their one on one meetings with her on Sat. and Monday, so she won't be home. We'll go see her the following weekend.

No.  LOL.  I'm getting used to the fact that dd might not call us much at all.  Except if she needs something LOL.  And you know- I see it as a good thing- I want her to be able to live "on her own"

We'll see her in a couple of weeks at parent's weekend.  At least I hope I can.  I went on an interview for a temp agency today and they seemed to be interested in me for this one specific job.  It's not something I'm thrilled about.  Hours are kind of funny. And it's temp-perm, meaning that I have to show them my "stuff" and they'll offer me a permanant job if they like me.

As long as they will work with me for ODD "stuff" (I want to see this orchestra she's playing in) and YDD "stuff' (she made the top orchestra at school her sophomore year in high school and I want to see the concerts she's in) I'll put my best effort forward for them.

The money will just about pay for the overage on DD's tuition.  This year is taken care of ( thank you MIL for putting aside some money for all of your grandkid's education).  But it will be gone by next year.  Sigh.  The price of a private school. As long as dd keeps up her part of the bargain (keep a good enough GPA so that you don't lose any of the scholarships this school has given you) we will help by paying the extra
