D1 went back on the 2nd and started J-term/Winterim on the 3rd. Honestly? It was enough time. She'd be more than a little nuts by now with a long break.

The winter term ends Friday, and she'll be home for the long weekend (no food service as it's technically a "break"). Spring semester starts the 24th. Looks like it's going to be a rough one, 17 hours, including 2 labs, and 8:00 class every weekday. She got herself some mroe work hours, too.

I didn't mean to suggest that his life is easy. I just meant that it is wonderful that he knows what he wants professionally at such a young age and that it sounds like he has the talent to pursue it. It sounds like he has a pretty good idea what he wants out of his personal life as well. Not saying it will be easy, but it is always good to know what it is that you want. Robin

People whose kids are in liberal arts may find those hours excessive. But,for kids in science and engineering. 17 hours is far from excessive. Most students I know have at least those hours and more plus their 3 hour labs.

I'm aware of that. I started college as a Biology undergrad at a science & engineering-oriented university, and I've worked in the tech industry for 20 years.

What is "excessive" is different for every person.
