Looking for some help with links or just some advise on adhd. I have a 8year old daughter who I am very worried about and wondering if she may have this? Am I in the right place? I'm new here and just looking for some help. I'm desperate! Any help is much appreciated! TIA.

Welcome to the board! :) I know we have some other members here who have children with ADHD. My son has Dyslexia, he has an IEP. I see that CMMelissa gave you the link about what an IEP is. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions about those. In our Resource Room Folder below you can find many articles about Special Ed. Here are some links I found about getting a child tested for ADHD that might be of help to you. I suggest that you talk with your daughters doctor about your concerns as well, he/she will be able to point you in the right direction for testing. Once you have the diagnoses you can take your results to your daughters school and get things moving to get a plan in place for her so she can be successful at school. You could also talk w/ her teachers/school counselors about your concerns as well. The teachers may be able to provide you with some written notes about your daughters school day that would help the doctor as well.

Please keep us updated and let us know how things are going. I hope some other members who have BTDT will jump in and give you some advice as well.

Individualized Education Plan, here is a link to a thread on this board that describes it further: http://forums.ivillage.com/t5/The-Resource-Room/What-Is-An-IEP/m-p/116249757/message-uid/116249757#U116249757. Basically, it's a plan that details the services, goals, etc that a child needs in school. You don't always need one with a child that is ADHD, but there is another option call a 504 plan that lays out accommodations that the school needs to make for you child.

Don't stress out about either right now, just work on getting a diagnosis first than take it from there. Please let us know what you find out.

Welcome to the board! I saw that you got a lot of help on the ADD/ADHD board already. I just wanted to mention that you should discuss whatever diagnosis you receive with the school to see if your daughter needs to have an IEP in place for her.
