So my sisters kids get out June 28th and they FINALLY finished testing my neice (been going on for MONTHS) so they have an IEP meeting June 20th. Alright I get its more for next year and I am sure they will discuss class placements (she is in middle school) but with a week and a day left of school you schedule a meeting...

We always have a lot of meetings at the end part of the year.  OUr state gives the district 90 days to get it done and there are always a lot of students to test in the February-May timeframe.  Even if an IEP is due first thing in the fall, we move the meeting back to spring, so the teachers won't be trying to write the IEP when they don't know the student well.

When we did testing we finished in June, they said we can meet in the fall. Since his new teacher didn't know him the prior year teacher gave her imput but teachers don't really write the IEP heres. They can add opinion but if they object they are 99% they are getting we are the special people you are just a classroom teacher. Which is one reason last years teacher just yesed them to death then ignored the IEP most of the time. Our IEP stays the same until we meet so it just rolls over in the fall. The teachers meet before the classes are determined. Kids are picked for classes for various reasons including IEP so teachers get the scoop on each kid in advance, unless its a new teacher. For the most part with the exception of last year the new teacher was fully implementing the prior iep before we even meet.

Turns out it wasn't the full meeting, nothing is set for next year they will need to meet in september but this was with the speech and reading team and mostly they wanted to go over summer reading goals and things to do this summer in prep for next year.
