.This is a repost from facebook sorry its fragmented but my friend needs help with her iep for her daughter.

well the IEP and weekly progress report issue is now being handled at the district level. the North district special ed coordinator is now on the case, and boy is she steamed!!!! She just found out that North high cannot even hold a simple IEP team meeting correctly. They are so out of compliance it doesn't even qualify as an IEP meeting at all

(1/3) They gave us notice per phone on Mon. For an IEP on Thurs. Then held in in the OPEN library with at least 4 other meetings going on at the same time so the coordinatoe was split between them. Then the only teacher that showed up was the one my kid invited she had no idea a meeting was taking place until about an hour ago

I'm getting confused here. Is this your child or your friend's? If it's you friend's, why are you are IEP meetings?

I have a son in the Shawnee Mission school district too. I have never had the kind of experiences you describe. But then my older kdis have very basic IEPs.

From what I gather it is her friends child, she isn't at the IEP meetings. Her post is copied from her friends FB page, it is in her friends words.

Hi :)
To my knowledge your friend should get written notice of an IEP meeting before it takes place. I believe she should get this notice 2 weeks before the meeting should take place. She also has the option to say 'I can't make it at this time, but this time would be better' and she can work with the IEP team to come up with a time that works. She of course may have to bend on the time but she should get a written notice with a good window of time.

This is a link to an article about 'who attends an IEP meeting

http://www.wrightslaw.com/idea/art/iep.team.members.htm

www.wrightslaw.com is a great website and highly recommend it to your friend, she will probably find some good info. there.

I also believe all teachers involved in the IEP (IEP team which the parent is a part of too) should get notice of the meeting and should attend as well.

Yes of course Wrights law. I am not sure if she knows about it but I will post that info for her. I wish my state would have a 2 week notice of ards but its only 5 school days and I am lucky to get that. They push it at 4 school days sigh. I had an ard for Oct and I had to reschedule it was only 3 school days notice and it would have been 4 if my ds had not gone home early the day before. Thanks Dawn

Tell her to keep a record of all communication including notes about phone calls, all emails etc, all weekly progress reports etc.

Thanks I sent her your suggestions. I thought the open meeting would be in violation. I just wasn't sure. I know none of my kids meetings have been in the open like that. Dawn

I thought that sounded wrong too but I wasn't sure if it was okay to do that or not at a meeting.

In our district we (me) call the parents and find a time that works for everyone . . . or at least try to.
