I always dread the paperwork...

In about a month, it will be time for my youngest son's IEP. So that means all the "preparation paperwork' is beginning to be sent home for me to fill out. I dread it everytime! I think it's mostly because some of the questions are so darn hard to answer! You can't just answer these questions, they always want examples for every answer too. And of course, when it comes time to fill out the paperwork, I can never think of any! I really need to be more cognizant of this throughout the year so I can jot down examples as they happen before I forget.

Anyway, just wanted to vent! Smile

Oh that sounds like something mine would do!! and has done!!!

As for the state to state thing, I have this discussion so often sometimes it seems SOME people can't wrap their heads around that their state's way or even districts way isn't the only way. We live in an education progressive state and I constantly hear critism from everything from homework to when we start and end school. maybe it makes sense to start summer vacation in May if you actually get summer weather in May but up north its June. We start late August early September and since most schools don't have AC starting early then that would not be pleasant since it can get hot in August.

Anyway that was an off topic rant and I know there was this call for national standards for education and while good in theroy I don't see it going well, but wonder if they will try to incorporate national standards for special ed???

It's so interesting to read about the differences in each state!

I finished the paperwork a couple weeks ago and then DS forgot to turn it in for almost  week straight. ::head desk::

I have never gotten anything like that either. We also are facing removal/reduction of services as he moves into middle school.

I don't know what paperwork you're talking about that needs to be answered outside the invitation that I sign off on. A couple of years ago we did get a questionaire and it asked all kinds of things like what DD likes to do on weekends to strengths and weakness, Those come every few years and I don't like them either, I never understood the relevence to a special ed team. By the end of this year we'll probably drop a lot of the services my kid's been getting so I've got to get prepared for that, Her transition to high school is going to be scary.

Interesting--our district does not send any paperwork home prior to IEP meetings.  We send home a draft IEP ahead of time, but that just started in the last year or so.

Well, I'm jealous of your mutliple choice questions but not the fact that you have to start off the IEP meeting! That would be tough! Are you supposed to just list your concerns and stuff?

Lisa, who still hasn't filled the paperwork!
