Well, I went to the state web site and found their page for accommodations for state testing. And it said that "any commercially available word prediction or spell check program was fine as long as the kid had it in their IEP.. I emailed it to the teacher, who emailed it to the district person, who called up to the state, and they said "oops. We will allow it this year but we will change it next year." Stuff about it being "an unfair advantage." Yeah... well, I don't feel that way. I was a horrible speller, but I still phonetically wrote what I wanted. My son CAN'T do that, for what ever reason. It takes him so long, even when not on the computer with word prediction. And lets face it, word prediction is getting better, and soon even Word will come with it for everyone.

I do not understand why this has changed now. I would investigate further if I were you.
Here in AL they have gotten rid of the writing portion of the state test. It is all multiple choice now and they have scratch paper to use to work out math problems if they need it. I always tell Nathaniel to just do his best but don't stress about these tests. In reality they don't hinder him passing or failing.
