My ds is not always the best at handling himself in social situations, and I really worry about him making friends especially since he's in middle school now.

I try to really hit home with my kids that they need to treat others as they would like to be treated. You can't be make friends until you try to be one!

I think it also helps to have them involved in after-school activities. Not only does it introduce them to more people in a social setting, it also helps to boost their confidence. If you are confident about yourself, people will want to be around you.

Nathaniel has similar issues. For him he has a few good friends but he gets upset b/c he doesn't have 'alot of friends'. I always tell him quality over quantity. Its good to have a few really good friends that care about you instead of a bunch of 'friends' who don't really care and who aren't really there for you.
