I feel for you. If I were you, I would want what they were working on daily, his book too. Then go to Khan Academy and watch the video there on the topic, with your son. Depending on his math book, the methods may be different, but if he understands it, and can get the right answer, that is what should count. www.khanacademy.com You can also do practice problems there as well. He may even be able to do this largely on his own. If he is still having issues, let the tutor know what they are, she may have a different way to do things that makes more sense to him.

I would also be very annoyed with the teacher. Ask about do overs. It can't hurt, especially if he is not getting the help he needs in class.

I really hope your DS can get a second opportunity to re-take tests.. My 7th grader does, In fact most teachers have policies across the board (not just a kid on an IEP) that if you fail a test, the test must be signed by a parent and it can be re-taken... If there's anything that annoys me most it's when teachers do not return an email or communicate effectively, The class my DD struggles the most in is math and that teacher communicates the least with me too. I'm thankful there is an extra teacher in there but if it wasn't for the special ed teacher liason we'd be up a creek. Good luck!

I believe a good teacher should allow a redo.

She did let him retake a spelling test once b/c he got a 0 on it. The other ones that he would make 40's on she would just keep that grade. He was doing 10 spelling words a week but lately I have felt like he can take on 20 words b/c of the kinds of words they have been. With taking on 20 words he has made a 90 and two 75s. Much better than 40's and 60's.
