So Liam came home all excited last week about a form he got in school for us to sign. "i want to do it" ok honey I wll look at it when we get settled. Well it was for special olymipics and DH went crazy and I fumbled to try to explain it to Liam.
Now he I call him "special" needs

From what your post says, it doesn't sound like your ds would qualify.
From their website for my state:
Who is eligible to participate in Special Olympics? To be eligible to participate in Special Olympics, you must be at least eight years old and identified by an agency or professional as having one of the following conditions: intellectual disability, cognitive delays as measured by formal assessment, or significant learning or vocational problems due to cognitive delay that require or have required specially designed instruction.
