It was inappropriate, but not unethical. She was not acting in her professional capacity when you disclosed informaiton to her. In other words, you told her info in an informal setting, which she does not have the same obligation to keep confidential if she heard it from a parent of a child in her class.
I am also a sped teacher, and confidentiality is a huge issue. However, if my neighbor told me her DD had a disability, I am not obligated under professional ethics to keep in confidential, as she did not disclose it to "UK the teacher", she disclosed it "UK the neighbor" and I didn't need to know that info.

I think you are justified in being upset and complaining to the teacher and the principal.

That would make me as irate as well. Do you think that she would take the situation seriously if you contacted her directly, with maybe an ending line that you are considering contacting her principal over the issue?
