Do you do any special educational things in the summer?

Wondering what you all have on tap for this summer that is education-related. Having 2 kids who are ESL and one who is ADD, I know that we have to keep up school-like activities during the summer or they tend to experience a big "summer slide."

Last year we did the PBS Kids Summer Reading program, the Barnes & Noble reading program and some of our own home school-ish type activities.

What do you do? Do you use any professional resources like tutoring companies or summer school? Do your kids attend educational camps?

We haven't done much in the past b/c I am usually working all summer but this year I have saved up my leave and will be able to take off a good bit of time. He always does a few camps at my Montessori school where I teach and he will take another one this year. My sister is teaching an Upper Elem camp there about Greek Mythology (at Nathaniel's urging) and he will attend that 2 week camp. Other than that I haven't got anything else lined up. I would like some ideas of plans I can make...do you know of any good websites I can use to plan?

Fun! It's always nice to take time off in the summer.

I've gotten some good ideas on the Homeschooling board in the past. I also loved your scrapbook idea. Since I can be lazy about getting photos printed, we bought the kids composition notebooks last year that are for younger kids. They have a blank space at the top where you can tape or draw a photo, then a place to journal at the bottom.

My husband found some books that are filled with small projects you can do at home. One is Ecology For Every Kid and they have others on different subjects - earth science, astronomy, human body, rocks & minerals, etc. They're by Janice VanCleave and there are tons of different topics.

My DD thrives on structure and I try to create and stick to a schedule even in the Summer, The school sends home leftover work, even additional work to do for the Summer before the end of the year, That gives all of them material to work from... There are no tutor camps I look for but I may place her in a dance camp, She and her sister will do volunteer stuff again and we plan to vacation sometime in there too. I can't believe this is two short months away already!
