QOTW~How Did You Feel When Your Child Was Diagnosed?

I know every parent feel different when their child is diagnosed w/ a learning, mental or physical challenge (I don't really like the word disability).

For me I felt relieved when Nathaniel was diagnosed with Dyselxia b/c it gave me something to work with.

I felt relief because I could finally have something concrete to point to for help when dealing with issues he was having. It also gave me the backing I needed to get him on meds, and my DH to really understand what was going on with him.

I think the diagnoses helped my husband alot too. Before he would listen to me tell him what I was dealing w/ and what Nathaniel was going through but I don't think he really grasped it until we had a name for it.

My dh was strongly against meds for a very long time, until it really started affecting DS, not only his grades but his self esteem. It would be easier if guys didn't think it was a sign of weakness or something along those lines. He also wasn't the on constant contact with daycare and the school hearing about how our DS was doing.
