I was curious when everyone touches base with their child's teachers.

I touched base w/ Nathaniel's teacher pretty much right off the bat via email. I was hoping to avoid at right at the beginning of the year conference this year but had no such luck.

I touch base with my son's teachers early - we meet at the end of the year to plan for next year (this year we had an additonal transition meeting in May because he started middle school this fall). We had an IEP open house the week before school started and spoke then. I talked to his case manager several times this week, and then I spoke to his PE teacher, since he'll miss one PE class every week for services (the other services are push-in) to make sure she was okay with him missing. I'll give the classroom teachers a few weeks, but I know that they've all received copies of his IEP and have talked to the case manager.

After two kids with IEPs, one with a 504 and one who had an IFSP and now goes off-grade for some services, I absolutely am the pushy mom/advocate! I find that if I'm not, things fall through the cracks (and I love our school system).

well this year will be interesting my parents now Liam's teacher from way back in the day and for the first 2 weeks of school one of them picks him up so they will see more of her then me. After the 1st day of school I need to drop and run. We do have a back to school nite the 3rd or 4th week of school then his review for his ed plan is in early october so I think for now that gives good time for us to feel things out on both ends.

My son has a 504 and will be having a pretty tough schedule this year (he didn't bother to tell me until summer that he signed up for advanced science, and he's also taking 2 math classes... EEK!) and I want to talk with his teachers right away. We are trying a new ADD med, and I want to make sure the dosage is correct before we get too far into the school year. I'm getting a bit nervous!
