Any reason not to take PSAT as soph?

My daughter's school is encouraging all sophomores to take the PSAT next month. The sign-up fee is cheap, so that's not an issue, and she really wants to take it. Are there any disadvantages to taking it this year? I don't want her to stress out if she gets a bad score, but it would be helpful for her to know her weaknesses so she can improve before the test actually counts.

I can't think of any other reasons not to take it, but am I missing something?

My daughters school gives the PSAT to Freshman and Sophmores for free.So every Freshman and Sophmore in her school have to take it reguardless of their future plans. Can't think of any reason not to take it.Although I am unsure of how much math they would need to have to do well on the math section. At this point in time my daughter is in geometry and she will take Alg2 her sophmore year.

Our school has all freshmen take it as part of their standardized testing.

The math isn't all that advanced on the SAT or PSAT.

In fact, sometimes 7th graders take it as part of the John Hopkin's Talent search.

My daughter took it in December of 7th grade.

My DD took it in 7th grade and I'm quite glad of it. She can get pretty worked up about tests and scores (particularly with a timed writing portion involved.) In the past, such jitters have screwed her results negatively.

Thanks. She does get anxious about tests, so any practice would help. She actually

My 9th gr dd is also taking PSATs; she took it last yr also. Its free for sophomores but 9th & 11th graders have to pay altho as you said, its not that expensive. For my dd if she doesn't take it then they give the 9th graders something called the Explorer test, which is like a career placement type test.

Janet thanks for providing some background on the EXPLORE test, I was wondering exactly what it was & how it was used. Of course my child didn't have a clue about it either lol.
