DD was wondering when she'd start getting emails from colleges, since she took the PSAT in the fall.

My DD took the PSAT first as a sophomore and checked the little box that said she wanted to receive college mail. The deluge started in December and lasted all throught the summer. This year, she didn't check the box because she felt all that mail was too much pressure, but

They are creative and nice to look at. DD probably should not have checked that box either. Not sure why they bother sending to sophomores.

19yo DS had fun with the glossy brochures but none of them changed his mind, and we only visited the colleges that we'd researched through College Board and other online resources and felt would be a good fit.

Jordyn made sure to not check the box, she has gotten a few things in the mail from an art college that visited their photography class and the one she went to Latin day for in Latin club, but that's been it so far. Oh, she has gotten quite a. It from Stanford's summer program and online high school, but so far nothing else. She's got her's pretty well narrowed down and she doesn't need anything else cluttering up her room, that's for sure!

DD #1 was hammered with college mail, dd #2 received much, much less.

I'm guessing that my dd didn't check the box.

I think what you will also find interesting is that you will get a huge flood of mail promoting transfers two years down the road. I guess they realize that a lot of kids stay home and do CC. We felt like it never ended, with the girls 3 grades apart. First dd21, then dd21 at two years, then dd19...I also think that some must get age lists to use, because both girls graduated relatively young (age 16 and age 17) and we also got mail at the more "traditional" times

Hmm, I'll have to ask 19yo DS if he's gotten any "transfer here!" emails.

When DD got an email from the U of Chicago, it reminded me of your "Hogwarts" comment when your DD visited it!

Dd got a ton of them at first after taking the SAT last year.

Wow I didn't know email was an option and don't know if my son checked it.
