MId-Year Recap - Report Cards

Either you are just receiving report cards for those who had mid-terms before the holiday break or are taking exams here shortly.  Its about the middle of the year now, how are the kiddos doing??  Any surprises, happy moments, any struggles?

For those with seniors in the final stretch, how are they doing, are they still working hard, sailing through, just enjoying things as much as they can?  And for those parents of seniors, how are you feeling as the end gets so close?

Ds had his finals last week. He did well, A 's and B 's. He got 1 C in H geometry. He is freshman taking 2 sophomore Honor's classes that took him by surprise. He landed up Ok but had to learn to crack a book for the fist time in his life. He landed up on the honor roll, with band and football and soon lacross, he is glad.

Devin had such a great start to the school year, but has tanked since then. I have a meeting tomorrow with his counselor, I need to set up a 504 meeting with his teachers so that we can keep better track of his assignments. I also have another med recheck with his doctor to talk about his ADHD meds. It just drives me nuts that if he could just keep on top of his assignments, he'd have mostly As. He just gets behind and the work just piles up.

Greg has his semester exams last week.  He got all A's--no big surprise. He might be the top kid in the junior class--I know he's Top 10.  He's starting to get lots of college brochures and postcards, but doesn't even know where he wants to start looking yet. He starts practice for the spring musical today--he's the male lead in the school's production of Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida (as opposed to Verdi's Aida). It's probably the most ambitious musical our school has ever attempted.  He's going to be a busy boy the next couple of months. He's also preparing for district solo and ensemble (vocal) next week, and just finished his entry in an essay contest with a $750 first prize.

Ditto on the senioritis! She won't slow down, but keeps asking, "Can I just be done with high school?"

She also acquired a BF before Christmas. So far, no drama, but he's also a very driven kid (applying to Air Force Academy) so he understands the need/compulsion to study and remain an upstanding citizen (doesn't want to party and definitely doesn't want a speeding ticket!)

Mid terms are next week and I think DD plans to slack off a little after that. DS, a sophomore, better not!

Fall semester ended last week, thank goodness.   We received dd's grade report yesterday and she did very well after a semester of drama and frustration with teachers.

Kelly, my college senior feels the same way that your HS senior feels.   I sincerely hope mine manages to stir up some enthusiasm for finishing her thesis.

LOL Kelly!  I often wonder if ODD just doesn't know how to sit back and relax!  I haven't seen much or lately, she got her first BF just before christmas, came back from the holidays in Michigan and worked 3 full days and then started cat sitting for her boss' mom's cat while they were on a cruise.  So she was mostly at their house up until last weekend since the house was just down from her job and she'd go straight there and stay the night most nights.  They had exams before break and we got report cards this week.  She had all A's except for AP European History which she had an 88 in, but she was thrilled with that as its a pretty hard class.  She's had that same teacher for 3 years now for various classes and loves having him.  She has an off period every day this semester, she goes in at 8:50 and gets out at 2:05, and is enjoying a bit more free time.  During the 4th quarter of the year she'll also drop her cheer class since basketball will be done and won't have to go in until 10:05 each day.  What a life!

She completed her dorm room application and we submitted the deposit last night (gulp).  We just are waiting on us to get DH's business info over to the accountant to get started on the FAFSA.  She has already completed all that she can, they did it as an exercise in her economics class last semester.

Mid-term week starts today for my HS senior.  This morning she took the Economics test and passed (it's P/F) so she doesn't have to actually take the class - she studied for it on her own.  She has one other midterm today and one next week.  Other than that she has a week off.

She is so sick of studying at this point - major senioritis!  But not enough to stop studying.  She says she can't wait to be done with this semester so she can relax a little bit, for the first time since, oh, 9th grade.
