It seems like summer planning period starts earlier and earlier the older the kids get, they spend a lot of the summer packing in stuff that wasn't done during the school year, whether it is college testing and visits that need to be planned, volunteer work, working a job to bank money for later on, or just plan relaxing.

Honestly, we don't know yet. DD 15 is in the application and audition process. She's auditioned for 2 acting intensives and has another audition next week. She REALLY wants the Shakespeare one that would take most of the summer and it's the one most likely to give her a merit scholarship but we'll see. She's applying for a theatre internship at a local regional theatre but as a high schooler, her best chances of getting one are during the school year (all the college kids gobble up the artistic internships in the summer and even with all her experience, it's hard to compete with legal adults who can drive!) There are a couple show opportunities she's exploring but she's thinking she'd rather work on her next production. She has started a tiny teen Shakespeare company. They've only done one show but it was excellent anbd directing is her career choice. Her next endeavor requires her to adapt and research sonnets that appeal to modern kids. It is time consumming. She will undoutedly work this summer (she's an aide for a youth theatre) but since there are so many kids who want work, she'll likely only get a few weeks which honestly, is just the right amount.

She's still trying to put together a Gold Award project for Scouts but it's slow going and she's been struggling with it... lots of ideas that have had to be dumped in the research stage. She has all her pre-req's done... just needs to execute a project (though it's a hefty time commitment.)

On top of that, she's applying to a middle college program for 11th and 12th grade. If she is accepted, she'll start school several weeks earlier than she has in the past.

Jordyn will be working most of the summer. She's set to work camps during the day and her normal classes in the evenings. She'll be saving the bulk of the money to have to get her through next fall when she's not working as much, as well as to have money in the bank for a newer car when her truck with 485,000 finally collapses.

She'll also have random h/s cheer things during the summer, a weekend at the lake house to do run through signs for football season, a week of pre-camp practices, 4 days at cheer camp, and various fundraisers. She also has 1 competitive cheer competition scheduled for mid-July.

And, to top it off, she's taking 2 community college classes to free up a bit of time in her senior year schedule.

DS will be working on his Eagle Scout project and working mornings as a rec leader at one of the local day camps. He will be going to 2 Boy Scout camps, one of which he plans to work at next summer. He will also be doing some SAT prep. He wanted to take a math class at the community college but they are so impacted by the budget cuts that he is way down on their priority list. Hope to squeeze in a few college visits also.

Dd will be working on a landscaping project for a neighbor. She started the one part of the yard last summer and hopes to finish this summer. They pay her pretty well. She has been saving for two years and is heading with Girl Scouts and Outward Bound to Costa Rica for 15 days. She is so excited. She will have two weeks to get ready to head out to college then!!
