Yes, there is an orientation day a week prior to school starts at DD's highschool. They get their schedules basically. I stayed last year but it was super annoying lol. They were telling us things like "make sure your child eats breakfast" lol. This year, I'm just sending in DD to get her schedule and that's that.

They have ours split into sections, this morning was Juniors A-L. They get their schedules, textbooks, new student ID's, admissions packet with the student handbook and all the stuff us parents need to fill out so they can return it the first day of school, and any other paperwork they need. And then they can meet with a guidance counselor to change/modify schedules if something happened during the summer that warrants a change. Its about a 1-2 hour process depending on how many kids show up, so she goes on her own, this year she met up with friends to do it and then went to lunch together afterwards. She texted me and said her schedule was "fine" and that she'd talk to me later about it. I can't read text, so I don't know if that means there needs to be a change or what. She set up her work schedule for the fall with her boss last night and brought up a work study option, so she may want to discuss that some more.

They have an open house next Wednesday night to meet their teachers. I went last year, and I'd like to go this year, but it will depend on if I can get a sitter for the little kids during that time. Its mostly just a free for all, show up, listen to the teacher talk for a few minutes, get any hand outs you need, etc. and then on to the next classroom. I like going just to hear the little things the teachers say that the kids seem to tune out, like the AP World History teacher telling the sophomores last year that taking an AP class as a sophomore is a big deal, don't expect to get a 5 on the exam, but do your best throughout the year, and make sure to pick up one of the AP exam study books from Borders.

We just got their schedules in the mail. This is a new school for us, so I'm still figuring out how they do things. My son, who will be a freshman, has to go to an all day retreat about a week before school starts, which I assume will be a sort of orientation. My daughter is transferring as a junior, so I think she just shows up the first day, schedule in hand, and figures out what to do next.

This whole private school thing is very new to me, and will be something of an adjustment. They really want you to be part of a community, and I'm more a hands off type of parent, so I'll have to strike some kind of balance.

School starts the 30th of this month & on the 29th there will be an ice cream social then a meeting in the auditorium & a tour of the school. They get their schedules on the 1st day of school & a supply list from their teachers. We were sent a supply list in the mail but it was a generic list. She may need the TI-84 calculator but she's in Algebra 1 so I'm not sure if she can get by w/her scientific one another yr. I'll have to ask. Everything is done the 1st day so if their is a problem w/her schedule she will have to speak w/her counselor that day to get it straightened out. Seems a bit much to have everything done only when school has begun but thats the way they do it here.

Dee find out as soon as you can on the calulator since they are on sale at this time of year.Gabby was able to use her scientific calcltor last year for geometry and physcial science this year for Alg 2 she needs the Ti 83 or higher. The Ti 84 is normally 129,but you can get it for 90-95 at Target or Walmart at this time of year so if she needs it buy it now don't wait til Jan if she won't have math to Jan.You can also get the colored ones now.

Nik is taking Algebra 1 this yr. She has a sceintific now. I would rather get the TI-84 & get it over with, then she'll be set for the next 4 yrs.

Get it now.I don't think she will need it for alg 1,but you will have it and it is on sale now and if they tell you she needs in in Jan you will be paying $30 more. The calulator is extremly complicated.
