How are you all doing?  How are the high schoolers doing?  Are any still in a fall sport or everyone fully in winter sports?  And how is mid-term prep coming along for those that have it before the holiday break?  How long and when is your holiday break?

DD is in her senior year, and I am loving it.  She handles everything herself, including getting herself wherever she needs to go.  Ahhhh.

She doesn't do sports.  What we *are* into is college applications.  Her application for early admission was rejected by the Ivy League U she applied to, so now she is working on the other 8 applications.  She has to audition for two of them in person as well.

I'm sorry to hear she wasn't accepted to the college she was looking at.  How is she taking it?  I have to agree on them getting themselves where ever they need to go!  It is so awesome to not have to worry about any of that!

We're in a bit of an awkward time.  The Varsity football team is in the play offs, round 4, the semis this weekend, and basket ball just started, so she is juggling cheering for both teams as well as practices for her competitive cheer team and work.  This week she is cheering for basketball Tuesday and Friday night, team dinner for the football players friday before basketball and then football play offs Saturday afternoon.  Luckily if they win this week, next weekends state championships are it and football season is finally over.  Also luckily she doesn't have anymore competitive cheer competitions until the 3rd week of January and Sunday practices are done until after the holidays.  She has finals next week, I know she is exempting out of a few of them, but not sure which ones.  She is done Dec. 20 and doesn't go back until January 7th.  We leave for Michigan for the holidays either the 21st or 22nd depending on football, come back the 29th or 30th, and then she works camps at her job Jan. 2-4th.  I am glad she will have a bit of downtime, which is not often at our house.  She also has her dorm application to fill out this week for the one and only college she applied and was accepted to.

We get two weeks off starting December 19 and none of us can wait. Both kids are stressed out. DS, a sophomore, is still trying to catch up on school work after playing the lead in the school play and falling a little behind in two classes. (Not surprisingly, he hates both classes!) DD, a senior, still has a few college apps outstanding, and now regrets signing up for her demanding course load while some of her friends are slacking off and enjoying their senior year. I'm doing my best not to say I told you so, but it is sooo hard....

Ah, but if she'd slacked off, she wouldn't have been herself, would she? ;)

Today is "senior cut day" at our school.  DD & all her friends stayed home to study and work on their college applications.  Oh, those wicked girls! :)

She's doing fine about not getting in.  She loved the university, but they reject 93% of their applicants, almost all of whom are just as qualified as DD, so she didn't take it personally. Mentally, she'd already moved on even before she heard back.

There are two other universities that she *really* would like to go to.  One she has to do an audition for in February, and the other requires that she write four additional essays, which she's working on this week.  Then there are four other schools where she has to submit additional materials (solo video and art portfolio) and another where she's already been accepted but needs to audition in February for admission to the school of music.  Lots of work and logistics.
