This is DD's senior year, so we've been dealing with this for awhile, but I'm just curious how other schools handle things.

My kids are leaving public school, but DD went to a public high school for 2 years. Our fees were for different things, but the total was similar to what you paid. We never had to buy textbooks, though. Each kid was issued whatever they needed and those were kept at home all year, while each class had several for the kids to use at school. The only time you had to pay was if you lost or damaged one. We did have to buy the summer reading books, as well as a few books for English, and the foreign language workbooks. Since your DD is a senior, I'm assuming you already paid for that horrendously expensive graphing calculator!

Sports are $275 per child per sport, with a family cap of about $1500 for the year.

What's really shocking is the price of the books at my kids' new private high school. I'm renting a lot of them, but still have pay as much as $100 just to rent one (Physics) for the year. That seems like a scam to me, but it would be $270 to buy it, so maybe I'm getting off easy. Textbook publishing must be the most outrageous racket there is.

Our state has pretty strict guidelines on what you can and can't charge for. They can't charge for anything that was on your list. DD is going to be a Sophmore. We did have to buy her a fancy calculator and

We don't pay for most of the stuff you mentioned. We do have to buy a grapghing caulator and of course binders.I am assuming when sr year rolls around we will pay for cape and gown and of course we pay for year book. For summer reading they gave her the one book she had to read for honors English, and the second book was a contempory novel of her choice so we did buy that for her NOOK.The books she chose to read for history we just checked out of the library sonce she won't be using those in class at all.Not sure about AP test fees. Now we did pay for band camp$300,mbut it is away she is on the dance team that is part of the band and we did pay for stuff like shoes boots and tights. But all of thsi stuff is by choice you don't have to be a member of the band so....Never had to pay a locker fee or any txt books at all.The books they read for Englisgh will be given to them in class and they return them when they are finished.i did not think they were allowed to charge for txt books in a public school. What if parents can't afford those fees.

Our fees are simlar to yours. I have to the Cap and Gown fee, they just sent that to us, I have not looked at that. We took our own seionr pics this summer at the stables where she works, that was a few hundred, but I figure these are the last pictures that I have to pay for until she gets married, lol! Sophmore year they take drivers ed through school that is an extra $260. We used to have to buy the bookd, last year her bill was over $600 just for books! THey are renting this year.

So far for my oldest school supplies have been about $50 and he's in first grade. That's not including the books I'll buy to support the classroom from the take-home things Scholastic sends home and, of course, I'll be helping out with all of the classroom needs the teachers have. I have a soft spot for these items because I'm constantly buying tissues and markers for my own classroom so I understand completely how much is necessary for a classroom. I'm fortunate to be able to afford items I need that the school can't afford any more, but other teachers can't, so I help out. No worries there.

My DD is a junior this year, she'll have 3 AP classes @ $57 per exam (the state of TX has an intiative and they pay $30 of each AP exam they take), she'll get the exam study book, but that is optional.

I get stuff like the photography lab fees since photography is an elective.I am wondering if Gabby will be able to download txt books to her Nook, thye said something about that but I don't know. For the txts that stay in the class room thye are available online.I find reading a book online kind of annoying though but if you are desperate....It would be cool if she can put them on her Nook color but that reamins to be seen.

Laura, I got an email this morning from Barnes & Nobles and it referenced 60% off eTextbooks, I am assuming for the Nook. You may want to look into it. I assume you don't need the email for the pricing, but if you do and you don't already get the emails, let me know and I'll forward it over to you.
