DD had braces for 3 years and really, there wasn't much pain and my DD has a very low pain tolerance. I do reccomend he use the wax they give the first week or two while his mouth toughens up a bit. Keep some soft foods around for the first day or two. They will give him a long list then of what he can't eat with braces but remind him there is still cake, ice cream and pudding lol.

Thanks for the tips! He was sore yesterday, and we went to the store and stocked up on pudding, Carnation Instant Breakfast, etc.

It is totally worth it, although he doesn't think so ;) The ortho asked him if he was excited, I actually think he expected him to say yes!

That's good to hear that he still ate some of the foods, I was surprised at some of the items on the list like Cheetos. Most of the stuff on the list he's doesn't eat, glad he's not like my some of his brothers who love the sticky foods. His upper teeth are pretty straight already, but he has some really bad bites. I'm interested to see how this will change the shape of his face.

We did find out he has an extra wisdom tooth, that was pretty interesting! There is extra one above one of the ones on top, the ortho said it was pretty rare but also kinda cool.

My 14 YO DD got braces last Summer and we've had appointmts every 10 wks with some visits inbetween to repair a wire or something.. It didn't take her long to get used to braces and braces today certainly aren't like they were when I was her age! Good luck!

Thanks! It did improve a lot over the weekend, as he's getting used to the feeling and they aren't hurting as much. I think he'll be doing a lot better once he gets used to eating more foods ;) I was amazed at the new technology, I wish we had it when I had mine on. His contract and expand with heat and cold, I believe they called it thermal wire? I guess he doesn't need them to be tightened every month, and they aren't supposed to hurt as much either. He has an appointment every month, our next one is mid-April.
