QOTW - Parents upset over New Condom Policy for 12 year olds

The school's officials of Springfield Massechusetts have just approved a measure in favor of a new policy that would give middle school children as young as 12 access to free condoms in a new STD-prevention policy. The condoms will be made available by school nurses, and students who take them will receive sex ed counseling from school health officials, we well as instructions on how to handle the contraceptives.

Several parents at the school have expressed concerns that the policy promotes sex among students.

Do you think kids as young as 12 should have access to condoms?

Yikes! I can see why parents might be upset. I hate to think of a 12 year old being sexually active. Unfortunately, some are though. I think it's a good idea to make condoms accessible. I don't think they necessarily need to hand them out to everyone, but making them available, for free, in the nurse's office is a good idea.

Scary to even think about! But, if they are willing to go in and ask for them, they should be giving them to the kids. I volunteered for a group that helped young parents, the youngest mom was 12!!!! How awful!

Although I hate the idea that kids this young are having sex, I'm glad that the school is doing something about it. I think what makes me more acceptable of the policy is that the school nurse will be giving them some sex ed along with the condom. Hopefully they'll be able to change their mind about having sex.

What do you think causes kids this young to even consider having sex? It just boggles my mind, there is no way they can be emotionally ready for it, so sad :(
