Not sure why I am having issues posting, but anyway, ds had his recommendations for high school sent home. We have registration coming.up in three weeks!!! My baby!! Sniff, sniff!
My HS sophomore will pick classes in 2 weeks. They have advisement over the next 2weeks. I know he will not be continuing in foreign language, so he will need something to fill that space. So far I know he will have chemistry, religion, English, not sure on his math placement yet, AP US history not sure on the electives. He will go zero period through seventh. Zero period is usually PE of some kind. DD is awaiting her acceptance letter and class choices, based on her placement tests, that won't happen til mid march.
We don't have a zero hour in our district, but they do have "an off period" which basically was for the kids taking college courses to leave early or come in late to attend the college classes or use as a study hall. They got rid of it for all but seniors this year and ODD is already banking on it next year so she can have an extra study period to get stuff done.
And wow with all the art/photography classes!! That would be Jordyn's heaven sent schedule. I know she has 2, possibly 3 planned I think and is even trying to take 2-3 college classes this summer just so she can have an extra art slot as well as an off period.
Dd is finishing her senior year. She has 3 AP classes and an honors class now. She did very well in HS, and has her already received her acceptance letter and scholarship offer from her first choice college. Ds is recommended now for H Geometry, H English, H World History and H Biology. He will take take band and German and PE/Health (one semester of each). Only Juniors and Seniors can take Zero hour gym, that is the only early class offered. We want to talk to his counselor first to see if this won't be too big of a load since he will play football in the fall and lacrosse in the spring!!
We don't have a zero hour class. We have block scheduling so kids take 4 classes in the fall and four in the spring. Since my son was in the band he had band/pe for one period for the whole year every year. That left him with 6 courses to chose each year and dd will probably be in band when she gets to high school too. I am not crazy about block scheduling, especially for math and English, but I don't think it will change anytime soon.

They are actually talking about going back to the traditional schedule next year at our h/s and ODD is having a conniption about it. She loves block scheduling, and if they go back to a regular schedule, it goes from 8 classes to 7 and she'll have to give up an elective! (god forbid! LOl!)

Ramona Mom to 2 great kids and wife to one wonderful hubby since 1990!
Freshman orientation was last Thursday.
Zero hour (sometimes called early bird) are classes offered before the official start of the school day.
