Cosco vs. Graco

Hi Everyone! So my 2.5 month old is growing fast. She'll be out of her infant carrier in the next couple months so we need to hurry up and get a convertible.

Here is the info:
* 2.5 months, roughly 17lbs, 25in, rear facing

* Need to spend < $150, would like to spend < $100, just need one seat

* 2005 Ford Explorer, LATCH equipped

* She's tall and it's mostly in the legs

The one I'm leaning toward is the Graco MyRide 65. It's highly recommended and within our range, but if I can get another car sear that's good and less money, I'd like to. A friend just got the Cosco Scenara which is about 1/3 the price of the Graco. Can someone tell me why I wouldn't want to buy this car seat over the other?

Both seats have a 40lb rear-facing limit. The MyRide has a taller shell so it will get children closer to 40lbs in the rear-facing position. You'll want to keep your baby rear-facing up to at least 2 years old, but 3 or 4 would be preferable. Let us know if you need links why.

The Scenera has a 40lb forward-facing limit. Most children will outgrow this seat around 3 years old so then you have to replace it with another harness seat until the child is old and big enough to move to a booster seat.

The MyRide has a 65lb forward-facing limit. Most children will outgrow this seat when they are about 5 or 6 years old and, depending on the child's maturity, you could move the child directly from the MyRide to a booster seat.

The MyRide is much easier to install.

The Scenera is a good, safe basic seat. It's lightweight and cheap so it's often

Definitely helpful!! The higher weight limit is definitely a plus, considering I gave birth to a baby giant :)

Thanks so much, I'll be looking into your suggestions!

I own both these seats! The MyRide65 is our everyday seat, and we keep the Costco one as a backup seat for my husband's car. My daughter is 22-months-old, 32 inches tall, and 23 pounds (tallish and skinny!). She rear-faces in both car seats.

The Costco car seat was a lot cheaper, and it makes a good occasional use seat, but my daughter is much more cramped in it than in her MyRide. The comfort of the MyRide (and the built-in-cupholders!) make this seat much better for longer trips. The Costco seat is a good basic seat, but the MyRide is more...substantial (KWIM?) all the way around. We're happy with both seats for what we use them for, but I don't think I'd be happy with the Scenara if I had to use it every day.
