need an extra seat

We are looking into getting a car seat for my mom to have in her car for times when she has our little guy.  We have a Britax Marathon in our van but we are looking for something smaller and cheaper.  We are also hoping for something fairly easy to install.

DS  - he is almost 2 1/2.  He is around 39 inches tall and about 34lb.  Since he is a big boy we would like to get something that would last until he can safely use a booster.

Car - a toyota corolla without latch (although there is a teather) - the seat will be installed in ff in the middle - hence by it needs to be small.

Budget - cheap as possible since he won't be using it much at all

Thanks so much for the input!

Hi there how are you in the US? If so how about the Evenflo Maestro. Its a good narrow seat. It a forward facing only seat. It goes to 50 lbs with the 5pt harenss. It has high harness height and should last awhile. It just doesn't last long as a booster seat though, but the good thing is booster seats are much cheaper then

I was also going to recommend the Maestro. Just know that it won't last long as a booster seat because the headrest doesn't move up to accommodate growing kids. So when your DS outgrows the seat, you'll need a high back booster.

Another option is the Graco Nautilus. It harnesses for a little bit longer than than the Maestro, converts to highback booster and then to a nbb. You'll be able to use it in harness mode or as a hbb for the first 6 years and as a nbb for 3 more years. It costs a bit more than the Maestro up front, but it will last longer overall.
