Two 3 year olds and a 3 month old

Need some help here. I am trying to figure out placement.

The 3 year olds are FF in Britax Marathons, and the 3 month RF in a Graco Snugride.

We have a 2006 dodge caravan. It has 2 seats in the middle (captains chairs) and 3 seats in the back. Though we do have 2 Britax, so impossible to put all 3 back there. There is only one latch system in the back row and the middle row has 2 latch systems. I am trying to figure out the safest placement for all of the seats. We currently have one 3 y/o FF in the back (using seatbelt instead since there isn't a latch) and The snugride in the middle of the very back row using the latch system. The other 3 y/o is in the captains chair behind the drivers seat.

I wasn't sure how to place for safety. There is no middle middle seat in my van. It's either all the way in the back or in the middle but on the side. ACK, so confused.

Could your 3 year olds seat fit in the middle of the back bench seat?I ask not because of the latch as that doesn't make a seat install safer. The seat belt install is just as safe. I drive an 05 Grand and I know that there is a tether anchor for the middle of the bench seat. The reason is that the tether would make it a little safer for a forward facing seat. It helps so that there is not as much head excursion.

All 3 seats won't fit in the middle of the back seat. Only 2 will fit, either both britax seats or one britax and one snugride. I thought of putting both the britax seats in the back and the snugride in the 2nd row captains chair, but thought it was supposed to be safer in the middle back for the snugride.

I feel bad, it's like saying, hmm, which child do I want to be the safest! I hate that!!!!

I do think with the baby that she needs to be in the safest spot, because she could be hurt the

We definitely use the top tethers on the FF seats.

I'm glad to hear that you are using top tethers. From one of the other replies, I thought that maybe you only had the top tether option in the middle of the third row. If that had been the case, then only on ff seat in the back would have been safest.

I'm not sure there is a safest option right now. At least nothing where we can say two in back and one in the middle is safer that one in back and two in the middle. It really depends on the type of accident you are in to which configuration would be safest.

I think that it would be easier to put two in the back and one in the captain's chair. I know some vehicles have removeable or stow away seats so the 2 in back and one in the middle might be easier - especially for you to get in the get everyone in their seats. I think it would be easiest to put the bucket in the 3rd row. Then you can get one child in and just set the infant seat in, then take care of the 3 year old in the captain's chair. This would allow the 3 year old to entertain and hand toys to the baby. Might not work if the older child wants to poke the baby though! But when the baby is in a convertible, the captain's chair might be easiest for you.

Is the 06 Grand different then the 05?I have the 05 and it only has one tether spot in the middle seat on the rear bench. Of course both Captains chairs have them as well. So she would have to put 2 seats next to each other on the back bench seat if its the same. She would have to put the rear facing baby and one of the 3 year olds side by side. Dawn

The way we have it in the back is I have britax tether strapped to the metal frame on the back side of the side seat. I read that as long as the strap is attatched to the metal structure/frame in the vehicle then it works the same as attatching to the metal anchor spot. If I attatch to the tether spot it pulls the seat to an odd angle. I hope that makes sense. So the britax is FF on the side with the snugride in the middle using the latch system. Since there is only one latch system in the back. It's not even centered. Its a really weird placement. For some reason we also can get a tighter fit with the snugride in the center than we can with it on the side of the back bench.

Ok got it I didn't know that one could do that. I have never used top tethers for my kiddos as they are 15 and 12. So by the time they came out and I had a car that had them I didn't have a seat that had one. So I never got to use those. As long as they fit next to each other then that is fine. Your
