Okay I am a bonafide car seat fanatic. My kids sit in a 5 pt until they are six and then move to the britax parkway. Earlier this year at 9.5 I let my oldest move to a backless booster. Now he is 10 and NONE of his friends still ride in any kind of car seat. He is not protesting per say but he does ask everytime he gets into the seat--"When can I stop using it?" He is 65 pounds and 4'7" WWYD. I have looked at the belt w/o the seat and if he is sitting correctly it hits right acrtoss the pelvis.

Thoughts????

Thanks

My child is 3 so I am nowhere near looking at boosters or just using a seat belt.

Definitely use the 5 step test - which you have to do for different vehicles and or in different positions in the same vehicle. My guess is that your DS will pass the test in some vehicles/position, but not in other ones.

i totally understand where you are at. the kids asking when when when. i would teach your son the 5 step test. show videos of what happens if you don't pass the 5 step test. that's what i had to do with my kids. they understood why but they still just wanted out. they knew it was for their safety but the fact that they were the only ones still in one drove them batty. this is when i'm thankful my kids are so tall. at 10yo they fit in a seatbelt. they are over 5ft & 90lb+ tho. it sounds like your son is still too small to fit without a NBB. basically i avoided at all cost to allow for friends to ride in our car or they ride in anothers. it wasn't easy.

My almost 9 yo DD is in a Monterey right now buuut there are times when a seat gets forgotten in Dad's car or a younger smaller friend is with us and I too taught her the 5 step test.
