I have lots of childrens clothing to get rid of. Need the extra money as we are moving my mom up here and will have to support her.(long story)

which do you think is better? selling lots on ebay or putting things at a consignment shop? We have a new place here in town, but they only go up to size 7 and buy the stuff outright, which is a big plus, but most of the really nice stuff I have to get rid of is size 8 or larger.

what have your experiences been? would you sell it on ebay or take it to a consignment shop?

thanks

Is it namebrand? I've made $200 on ebay in the past week selling some clothing my children no longer wear ~however it was all Gymboree. If it's not high end namebrand I would list it in "lots" on ebay. Think of the price you would like to get out of it and set it up with that as a "buy it now" price and begin the auction with a lower price. With "lots" people tend to like items that can be put together to make outfits ~ like 4 pants with 4 pants etc. If you have jammies list them in a seperate lot of JUST pj's. I really enjoy ebay and find I make alot more $$ there than the consignment shop. However I still take things to c/s when I just don't have the time/energy for ebay. The c/s in our area only want namebrand ~ Gymboree, Old Navy, Gap, Tommy etc and you'll definitely make more $$ on ebay with those names. GOOD LUCK! JOy

I agree that ebay would probably be a better choice. About the pajamas thing, I have noticed that pajamas seem to go for quite a bit on ebay. I have been selling some of DD's clothes and do better when I make small lots (even w/ namebrand clothes-saves the buyer on shipping so they're more likely buy lots IMO) or put outfits together.

If you're talking about Once Upon a Child, I wouldn't really reccomend that. I have taken some of DD's stuff there and they don't really wanna pay much. We just moved to a new area and the one here SUCKS. They are so picky about the kind of clothes they accept and they never have anything good for sale. JMHO.

Good luck selling! Another tip for ebay is use an auction template builder. I found an awesome that only asks that you pay $1 per month AFTER trying it and making sure you like it. If you want the link, email me (I'm not sure I can post that here.) After I started using this, it seemed to me that I got more $$ out of my stuff. Well worth the $1/mo IMO.

Anyway, Hope this helps! Sorry for rambling!

I would sell it on Ebay. Any brand name or really nice stuff I would list separately, and then the not so nice stuff I would list in lots. I've never had good luck with consignment shops.

I have never sold on ebay (yet - lol) but we do have a consignment shop in town that seems to do pretty well. I know lots of people who sell and shop there, but I live in a town where there is no other option for kids clothes. We have all the big stores like Target, etc. but they are about a 15m drive and a $1 toll away, so many who just want to go for a walk in town and do a little shopping end up there.

When I spoke to the owner she said that she was pretty picky about condition (must be in almost new cond - no stains or obvious wear), but not necessarily about brand. She said that she usually sells things for about half what it cost new and that it is a 50/50 split. She only displays items for 3 months and then it is either returned to the seller or donated (your choice.) I don't know if this is standard or not...

Good luck and I would love to hear how it goes on ebay if you go that route.
