DH &I found a great grocery/budget tip..

Been busy with DS who is now almost 7mos. Both DH an I co-parent and have come up with a great idea that I wanted to share with everyone. They say the three best ways to be frugal with your grocery shopping is 1:)Set a grocery budget 2:)shop sales and use coupons on things you need and use 3:) make a menu either weekly or monthly.

Well it was #3 that we always had a hard time with, either by not being able to plan around the sales or by not beeing in the mood for or to tired to make what ever was planned for that day. We finally came up with assigning each day of the week a dinner "topic" for example our weekly/monthly menu now looks like this.... Sun-pasta night, this covers everything from mac-n-cheese to tuna cassarole to speghetti & meatballs ect. Mon-beef...roasts,fajitas,cheap cuts of steak sct. Tues-chicken/turkey Wed- (I normally work later into the evening)Sandwhiches, anything from grilled cheese to an everything style homemade hoagie. Thurs-pasta/casserole, Fri-pizza night, this can be everything from takeout to frozen/on sale to homemade. Sat-hamburger,meatloaf,burgers,tacos ect.

This has allowed us to shop the sales for the best deals as we know we can freeze the meats for later, stock up on frozen pizza's when they go on sale at a great price, and get other ingriedents as needed as well on sale. and we can grocery exile when needed on this plan as well as stay in our budget. Its helped with "knowing whats for dinner" after the work day and helps the cook that night plan accordingly. Plus no more bored with the same old thing any more as it allows room for variety and an opportunity to try a new recipe.

Hope others can use this idea modified to there household and have sucess with it as we have.

Hey, that's a good idea. We do a weekly menu but I've been out of the habit lately. This might work for us.

I'm glad you were able to find a menu plan that works for your family! I make the menu out, but don't assign a specific day to the meal. Then I can choose what sounds good that day and just cross it off the list! Everyone has to do what works for them, right?
