I am a sahm to 4 kids ages 8(dd) 5(dd) 2(ds) and 2(ds) DH works as a mechanic; paid by commission so his income varies. Sometimes it isn't enought to pay the bills let alone buy groceries for 6 people!! Right after the twins were born he was umemployed for 3 months so needless to say we had to sign up for food stamps. Neither of us wanted to do this but we had to eat! The good thing is that 18 months ago we finished paying off our credit cards!! So now all we pay are basic utilities, car insurance plus a house & land payment. It's still a struggle since we never know how much his paycheck will be. We also still receive food stamps($420./month) b/c we are considered low-income. But i use tons of coupons sometimes saving $200 a month on groceries. I have lowered our bills a lot by cutting off cable, only basic phone service now-no extras, had house & car payment refinanced as one loan--Total monthly savings so far:$265.00. I think the best thing we have done in the last year was purchase a 1 year zoo membership for $35.00. The kids love it! We have been to the at least once a month for the last 9 months for free!!

Health insurance where dh works is $495./month for the family! There is no way for us to afford that. Thankfully the kids are on medicaid but dh and I are just 'out-of-luck' BUT I did find a clinic that only charges $50 per visit. . .including most meds! So it isn't so bad. Anyway, if you made it this far, thanks for reading! I hope to learn a lot from you guys!!

hello:) I'm Jen 23 married to dh 23, have to boys 3&1. My dh is also a mechanic and works for a dealership thank god he gets a monthly check eventhough it barely pays the bills. we are waiting for him to become a journeymen in a year and then he will finally be making some good money. i was just curious...if you want to refinance do you have to have good credit because right now were paying 2 carpayments and a personal loan and thats whats killing us every month. i thought if i could refinance them together we could save a bit but are credit is not very good. anyways sorry now i'm rambling:)

Hi, April. Welcome! Do I know you from the 2nd grade board or somewhere else? I can't remember but I recognize your user name.
