Hi. I LOVE this board! I'm so glad I found it!

My name is Kelly. I am a 26 year old mother of a 6 year old son and a set of 6 month old boy/girl twins. DH and I are trying to buy our first home ... prices are outrageous but so is our rent, so we really need to get into something! Anyway, I am trying to buckle down so that we can make the home we would love to have affordable. Both DH and I work, and we recently paid off all our credit card debt (hurray!). We still have two car payments, though ... and the list of supplies for the kids is never ending!

Unfortunately, I LOVE shopping. I love to buy my kids the best of everything ... and too much of everything ... lol. I resell my kid's clothes on eBay, so I make a little money back on that, but I still need to cut back big time!

Also, I would like to buy some new things for our new home. We are still in the process of negotiating, but even if we don't buy this particular house we need to cut back. I am still spending like I have only one son, and the twins are very very expensive ... lol

I am going to post a seperate thread about a budget, but just wanted to introduce myself!

Welcome, Kelly! I'm a recovered shop-a-holic (wink).

You can do this! I did and I have twins too! My b/b twins will be 8 y/o in October. I know it is fun to buy for the kids (I went overboard too). Plus buying for the kids is easier to justify than buying for ourselves. But wanting a house of your own is a great reason to reign yourself in. Also, just as a reality check, you need to watch your spending because you never know what is down the road.

My DH and I both worked--he fulltime, me 1/2 time. My job was (and is) very secure, DH's job was secure (we thought). He was unexpectly and permanently laid off just after our boys started 1st grade. He made 3 times what I did at the time! Wow, we were in a state of shock. Fortunately we didn't have huge debt but is was scary and hard for a long time.

Stick around, this is a great board!

Welcome to the board, Kelly! I'll go check out your other posts, but just wanted to say hi here first.

One way I cut down my "shopping as entertainment" was by paying cash for everything. Once I started carrying around a finite amount in my wallet, I got a lot more picky about what I spent it on.

Glad to have you with us :)

Hi Kelly, I'm Elaine and a former shopaholic! I used to have every credit card known to man!LOL After having our first child (who is now 5) I stopped working so I could be a SAHM. Somehow we paid off all our debt in the first 2 years. So now I spend cash! It's so much better spending cash. I am much more picky about what I buy and will save up for something I really really want. We now have 2 kids and my son is in Kindi. DH makes a lot more money so we live comfortably. One of my first victories was walking out of Target without buying a thing! Then I moved to having $20 in my wallet for 2 weeks!

Good Luck and welcome to the credit card debt free club!
