Stick to your list!!!

Not planning can really hurt that grocery budget! Impulse buys can be a big *ouch* if you ever tallied them up! Grocers/retailers are counting on the fact that when they advertise their loss leaders. If you read this article on saving money on food, it states that "Shoppers making a "quick trip" to the store usually purchase 54% more than they planned, according to a study published by the Marketing Science Institute."---those are impulse buys, people!!!

Look over those receipts after each trip to the store and circle anything that wasn't on your list. We'll be doing check-ins--how many impulse items did you buy, were they *wants* or *needs*, how much could you have saved w/out them, is it something that should have been on your list to start with, etc.

Some of you may ask--"What if it's something I forgot to put on my list, but I know I need it?" Well, I'm guilty of this too at times. But, if one is really thinking about what

Of course I'm in! Do want to say up front I don't/haven't been shopping with a list, so that will be added thing for me. I mean, I list what staples we are out of, but I think you are talking menu planning?!

My $ goal will remain what it was for February, with weekly 'mini-goals' of less than 25% of budgeted amount.

I'm in! I love making up my lists. However, I am guilty of sometimes leaving my list on the kitchen table, and then winging it. And you are correct, that is usually when I get into trouble (that, and if any family member comes shopping with me, lol).

This will be a huge challenge, but I'm going to try it. I make a list, but then I seem to always forget it and go from memory--and I just happen to remember about two times the amount of items on my original list.

I'm doing my major March grocery shopping tomorrow, since today was payday, so I should finalize my list. We'll see how it goes!

I'm in! I almost always find things not on my mental list. It will be challenging and maybe a bit embarrassing!

I think I've been doing a pretty good job at only buying what I need, but not so good at planning ahead, which leaves me buying cat food at the more expensive store.

I have figured out that the two big grocery stores in my area (Safeway & Save Mart), allow you to look at the weekly add online, and just click on items to add them to a printable grocery list. Yay! :-) Also, I've found that pulling aside the coupons I'm going to use ahead of time, really helps me from being flustered at the end, especially juggling a toddler. Not sure why I didn't think of that before.

I'm in! This is one of those things that I think I already do but may be surprised when actually having to circle un-planned items on my receipt. Should be interesting!

I'm in too! I did pretty good last month, but if I had not bought those couple of extras, when I thought we could afford to...I would have stayed with-in our budget

I will try but when I make a list I sometimes need to change that item to something else because of change in ingredients(sp?) my girls have multiple food allergies so grocery shopping in itself is a diffcult task for me

I sometimes have a stack of coupons only
