I don't know, but I was a bit insulted by the tone of this article (and the name). Yeah, some of it is stuff I wouldn't do, and maybe some parts were a bit over the top or obsessive in a OCD sort of way, but I don't think that just because someone is frugal that they are necessarily a cheapskate either.

Thoughts?

Unfortunately, I think they feel that they

I agree MM.

We save right about 50% of our income and it's certainly not out of fear, but is rational.

Well, I thought it was a pretty good article, especially since it did have some actually helpful advice (about laundry detergent, at the end.)

However, what struck ME about the article was that the first woman saved bagel scraps from her kids' plates to use for pizza.

Oh, Kay, good catch on the percentage of her salary saved! You're right that as a mortgage underwriter, she may not be saving any more now than before. OTOH, either way it means she's living on less.

And yes, saving bagel scraps for pizza toppings is just gross. Why not pull out the crumb tray from your toaster while you're at it? At least that's a bit less germy!

I wrote an insanely long post. Basically saying I could relate, really so, to the first woman in the article. Not as I am today, but at one time...Firefox had an issue and I lost that entire post. I cannot, will not, attempt to re-type it, so I'll just say that I didn't have a problem with the article.

I think it is interesting that the people who are already very frugal AND still have jobs are being so ultra frugal, yet many articles highlite people that have never bee frugal and are suddenly becoming so due to a job loss and those articles, the people are barely scraping the tip of the iceberg of frugal living, when they are the ones who really need to be extreme. Odd.

The part about the maternity clothes struck me also!

I think the saving out of fear will be happening a lot.
