Thinking about buying a Whirlpool Duet washer/dryer pair

I'm not having a ton of luck finding reviews for the duets. My current pair is maytag neptune front loader, made by whirlpool and having issues. I'm debating with myself if it's worth it to invest in another pair. The current deal is that if you buy the $800 washer, you get the $500 dryer that matches, with free delivery. I just can't remember anyone raving about the Duets. I'd love to hear others opinions about the duets, or what do you have that you love, and do you think it was worth the money, and how much money are we talking about? Laundry is backing up while I try to make a decision...

I've had the duet dryer for 4 years now and no problems.

thanks that does help. My Neptune washer has been great, and I didn't get that mildew smell until this fall, so a full 5 years into ownership. I dumped a bunch of bleach into the rubber gasket around the washer drain and some powdered detergent and ran it thru 2 hot wash cycles empty. That was the end of that problem.

My problem is that my dryer drum is cracked. Turns out, this is a fairly common problem with this particular dryer, and there is nothing to be done except replace the drum, or the whole dryer. The drum is $260, that's just for the part, and then I'd have to figure out how to install it. I can do that, but it almost seems like a smarter idea to go ahead and buy a new matching pair and sell what I have for a fair price. I'll come out almost even when all is said and done.

But I truly hesitate to buy a Whirlpool product....

DH works for Whirlpool... The Neptune was left over from when Maytag and Whirlpool were separate.

what size is your washer? My Neptune is 4.1 but the Duet that is on special is 3.3, and is smaller than what I have. There is no way it can handle a full size sleeping bag, or the king quilt off my bed, which is something that gets washed often enough to be an issue (the dogs and cats sleep on my bed, I'm allergic to cats, the cats don't care! LOL) I'm nervous about buying a new set, or even a new one of either. 50% of all new laundry appliances have service issues in the first 2 years, I don't need that kind of headache...

I have a Duet Washer (5 years old) and a Kenmore dryer (1 year old). the only problem I've had with the washer was the seal got a tear and had to be replaced. I haven't had any mildew smell, but we leave the door open when not in use.

Just curious...if just the dryer has a problem why not just buy a new dryer?
