Every year, DS's school sells these Entertainment books for $25.

We bought one this year too and we used it twice. Not worth it. Like you we either don't do the things in the book or the places we do go it isn't stuff we order.

I don't think it's worth the 25$.

I fully consumed 1 book and have 3 more used about as much as we can. There are a few more coupons I will be using before the end of the month. I save WAY more than the book costs, just in fast food over the course of a year. Our entertainment book has a coupon for season passes to the nearby amusement park that are cheaper there than any where else. The pass is the cost of paying to get in twice.

Another thing I do is tear out coupons and give them to other people. Like we were gonna eat out the other day at Azteca. But there was a 20 minute wait, I didn't feel like waiting (or like spending the money). I have 3 books in my car. I tore out all 3 coupons that are good for $10 off dinner. I walked into the waiting area and handed them to the 3 families sitting there. *I* didn't save any money, but they sure did! I'll be doing that again next week, just walking into places that we don't usually go and giving away coupons. I'll also give them away on CL.

But, if you've already seen the book and know that you don't eat at any of those places, or shop in any of those places, and you don't rent a car ever (I haven't in a couple of years) then the book is a waste of money for you. And an Entertainment book sitting on your desk at home is useless. It has to be in your car or in your bag with you. Then, when you go places, you just look the businesses up in the back and see if you can save some money.

I don't buy the books. We rarely eat out, we do most of our home repairs and car maintenance ourselves...I can usually get better deals with groupon to local attractions.
I do buy popcorn from my boy scout. I buy cookie dough and fruit from the school sales since it is something that we will consume and not a total waste of money.

That's a good point about keeping the book in the car. I noticed that my sister gets a LOT of use out of her Entertainment books each year (she's always the one yelling, "WAIT!! I have something for that...."), and her book is always in her car. Me? I buy it for the school fundraiser, flip through it and don't immediately see anything useful to us at the moment, and then it goes on the shelf.

I can't tell you how many times we didn't PLAN to drive thru some place, but then, it's way past dinner time and we are a ways from home and need to eat. I yank out that book and sometimes, we make a decision between 2 places based on what's in the book.

Right now, I have an ad on Craigslist giving away the rest of my coupons. People are funny, my ad said I have 3 books and SO many people have emailed me and asked for the entire books. Not gonna happen, I know they can't use all of them before the end of the month...

I always did buy them and usually got enough out of them to cover the cost of the book but no real savings after that. I decided not to buy one this year.

I usually do buy them, but in the ones we get there are (5) $5.00 off coupons for one of the local grocery stores, so worst case scenario, I break even.
