Do you really need a refrigerator?

I saw this article on the iVillage home page this morning about a lady who doesn't use a refrigerator:
i guess to each their own. but i couldnt do it. my sister in laws inlaws were farmers and they were always giving me farm fresh eggs and while i ate them and loved them-i always felt weird taking them home room temperature. i immediately stuck them in the fridge when i got here. my dhs cousin keeps her butter at room temperature claiming she likes it better that way. my whole dh's family leaves easter eggs around the house at easter time(except for me. i stick those things in the fridge!! LOL). my fridge died back in 2007 and for 2 days we were without a fridge. we had a chest freezer so we didnt lose our meats and we could buy frozen things and cook them(like hot pockets breakfast sandwiches and toaster strudel)...but it was a pain. i hated not having milk, cheese, cold drinks-and i felt funny using the ketchup, mustard and jelly thinking it should be refridgerated!!! (we threw out the mayo, miracle whip, ranch dressing and french dressing after it was in the warm fridge) i love my fridge. i dont think i could not use it.
