What the heck happened to the beef cattle this year? In my area, the regular fatty hamburger is $2.50 lb ON SALE!! what the heck? A simple meatloaf (the ones like our mom's made and we hated} is now as much as a higher grade steak dinner! I have cut the meatloaf and mashed potatoe dinner out of our rotation.

I know it can't just be me suffering the sticker shock of a pound of hamburger. I hear and see other people talk and languish over the meat case. It's scary for me' it really is.

what are the prices in your area? Do you feel the same way?

I feel the same way...hamburger is $2.50 pound on sale here for the fatty stuff!!!
We have been eating more chicken lately since I can still buy boneless/skinless breasts for 1.99 on sale. Whole chicken for .89-.99/pound. Pork loin had been 2.59 on sale too, but I was able to find a sale for 1.99 this week.
Prices seem to be going up and up...

I stock up heavy when I see it at $2/lb on sale, and that is rare. I don't like hamburger enough for that kind of pricing. Meat prices are a killer. We do eat more chicken, because it's more affordable.

I made sloppy joes the other day for dinner. I had a container of left over white rice in the fridge. I took a chance and mixed 1-2 cups leftover rice in with the ground beef as I cooked the meat. I hoped that doing it that way would let the rice pick up the meat flavor. Then, after I drained the grease, mixed in the sauce. My family loved it, said that it tasted just fine, normal, good. (I don't like sloppy joes, so I dunno!) Rice is still cheap, so it's a cheap way to stretch that expensive ground beef.
