I negotiated on medical bills. Said we can't pay all them. I showed proof of our income. Got the bills reduced.

Yes! My DH is an excellent negotiator (it's part of his job) and he enjoys it. We tend to get what we consider fair, and the companies we deal with continue to want our business (as well as their competitiors), so I think it's a good practice.

I am terrible at negotiating :-(
But last year we had a new metal roof put on our house, and it leaked. Needless to say I was not a happy camper, and I let the contractor know that I wasn't pleased. He ended up replacing our skylights at his cost.

I've negotiated credit card rates, applicances (I've never, ever paid for a delivery and set up fee!) and medical fees. I also negotiated on my windows installments, and had them replaced on the coldest day of the year, with a newborn in the house.

I've never negotiated on the mortgage or a car, but I've never bought a new car. So I guess I have negotiated on a car, but that was with a private seller. I'm getting ready to refi my house, so I'll have to do my homework, find out what I'm getting into, and negotiate it!

We've negotiated on all of these, except medical bills. Thankfully we have been healthy!

We also have negotiated on furniture.

I enjoy haggling at estate sales and garage sales too.
