I was watching clark howard yesterday and he usually has really good money saving tips. this time was no different, but what he was saying i already knew. he was talking about dollar stores. he said he used to just go to dollar stores to get lil frivolous things, things he really didnt need, but lately hes been looking around and he sees the great deals he can get at the dollar store-for things he actually needs. he said cleaning supplies, cleaners, party supplies, greeting cards, health and beauty stuff, etc. he said you can get good stuff only for a dollar. you can really stretch your money by suplementing your grocery shopping with dollar store items. he didnt add but i did-you can also get great deals on school supplies and baby items. after he got done talking, he looked at the camera like he had told a big financial secret and all i could think was DUH!!!!!! lol

I shop at the Dollar Tree. Sometimes they have name brand things for 1$. I was getting them Kelloggs Fiber Choice or Fiber Plus bars. In the grocery store a box with like 5 or 6 in them was over 3$ going near 4$ depending what grocery store I shopped at. When Dollar Tree gets them. I get 5 in a pack 1$. So I'd stock up on all the available flavors. Dh would eat them. They hadn't had any lately. But I check each time I go in there. I would get Lysol brand toilet cleaner which I like. The Awsome degreaser they sell is good. On occasion they had tank top shirts in my size. I would buy them. Wear them under my work shirt on hot days. Something to soak up the sweat. So sweat wouldn't showing through my work shirt. They were getting them in the same shade blue my work shirt is in, white and black. Some of the frozen veggies they sold were nasty. I got the TJ Farms mixed veggies. The broccoli was all woody like. But the corn and peas were fine.

but it's one of those things that you have to keep a price book for. I've been tempted to buy things at the dollar store then saw them later at walmart or some where else for much less than a dollar.

my dollar tree also sells steak for a dollar. They are a decent cut, but they are small, and when a person does the math, they are almost twice the cost per pound as they are in the grocery store!

I really like Dollar Tree's seasonal items. They're great for some of the classroom parties that the moms put together for the kids at Ian's school. I just wish there was one closer to us. There isn't a single dollar store closer than about 20 minutes away.
