Need to find some resolution beyond this board for a bad trade? Please try the bad trader feedback sites like http://www.traderalertservice.com (there are a lot of others as well).

Because iVillage is not responsible for bad trades and cannot verify what did or did not happen, we should try to keep really negative feedback off the board as much as possible, but there are other avenues to research and report potentially bad traders. If you do post feedback about bad trades, please keep it factual: only include information that had been posted on the board (e.g. no full name, no address, no email, no husband's workplace, no playgroup board link... etc, etc). As long as you leave it as "I sent my money to so-and-so on such-and-such date and haven't received my item after dozens of attempts to contact", it should be ok. It's when posts get personal and accusations fly that the blow ups occur.

I'm also working on a way to have some kind of feedback mechanism in the FAQ! In the meantime, if you have bad trades with someone, please email me with both your username and theirs and what happened (please keep it factual) and I'll put it in the FAQ.

Sara,

Thanks for the link, I am signing up for that list. But I am a little confused here after reading your statement:

"we should try to keep negative feedback off the board as much as possible".

I thought that Melissa's post a week or so ago on rating sellers/buyers in the feedback forum was quite helpful. The rating system - anywhere from perfect transaction to item not received - seemed to be a good idea. I am trying to understand why a feedback comment that states we had a negative trade is not a good idea (as long as it is completely factual/truthful, and tries to leave out emotion/slander type language). Why would Ivillage have something against trying to keep things on the up & up? I realize they can't moderate what happens with trades & aren't responsible for them - but feedback is about the only way we know whether or not to trade with someone. And it seems logical to me that if we can post the good here, we should be able to post the bad.

After a few trades here where the quality of the items were not what it was stated to me, I am already a little gunshy about buying clothing off the board. I personally think more people *should* post HONEST feedback (myself included).

Am I missing your point? Thanks!

Jennifer, it's more about the WAY people could post negative feedback than the fact that it's there. Melissa and I received an email from ParentsPlace today about how feedback should be handled. They like the folder we've set up and the "instructions" on how to post it (by each member having their own discussion, etc so it's easily searchable).

Because they are not liable for any transactions that occur, they don't want to get into a situation where wars start or personal information is spammed because of a bad trade. They did mention they know things have been smooth sailing here for a while but that one really teed off person could change all that. So they advised us to really try to keep the heated negative feedback off the board and onto a more appropriate forum. If we keep it to the facts like I mentioned in my post, we should be ok. I wouldn't challenge a post simply stating that someone paid for but did not receive an item as long as it stays just that...informative. We just don't want anyone getting nasty! :)

I would also recommend subscribing to Garnettes trader alert list. She's been running a wonderful and helpful service to many people for a long time. I don't think she gets involved in trades that were COMPLETED, but she does keep track of people who don't send out their end of deals (she keeps these records, I think forever!lol) I didn't even know this board existed until I recieved my trader alert email today which stated that someone on here sent $32.00 to a lady through paypal for diapers and the lady never sent them.
