We've been having some trouble with "overposting" lately - please read the info below to make this board a fair place for everyone to buy, sell and trade.

***

Here is an example of how to post your FSOT items:

Click on Start A New Discussion under the FSOT folder. Enter a title/subject such as "My Items for Sale (m)".

Then in the body of this post, list all the items or categories of items you have for sale or a website URL where all of your items can be viewed and your email address. DO NOT start a new discussion or a reply to the main post for every item or category you wish to list! This type of "board hogging" will be reported to ParentsPlace.

If you sell some items that you have posted, you can edit your original message and remove the items that have been sold without having to send a new reply to update your list.

As time goes on, your post will slide further down the list as more posts are added. In order to move your items back into a more visible spot, you can "bump" your post by adding a reply that simply says "bump" in the body. We ask that you only "bump" your post up ONCE per day (ie. you may log in on Wednesday to bump your post from Tuesday up to the top of the list). If you bump your post or post a new "these items still for sale" discussion more than once per day, appropriate action will be taken. Editing your original post to update your list and remove items that have sold will not bump you, so this is really the best way to make updates to your lists.

Please follow these simple rules regarding posting on this new board. We would like to keep this a nice, friendly board and do not want to have arguments started over little things like people bumping up their posts or "overposting."

I understand the reasoning behind this BUT.... When I have something NEW for sale, say I just stumbled acrossed it in the closet, I do not feel that by editing it into my orginal post, it gets seen. I can't speak for everyone but I know I don't have much time to check everyones post to see if they've added a new item up for sale or if they have the same old stuff every day. That is why I make a new thread when I find something new. After about a week or so of having it up, then I add it to my original FS list. But still feel as if it doesn't get seen then either. I just skip over alot of FS post thinking, well, it's the same ol' stuff, not gonna bother as I don't have time. AND if anyone notices,,I usually don't bump my list for a few days & sometimes go weeks w/out bumping them.

Anywho, that is why I have 3 FS list up right now.... They will be combined once I see there is no real initial interest in my item(s)...

I just don't see how anyone can sell newly listed items by putting them in their OP...

is there anyway you can just sign onto this site and have the links there, but no post, that way you can go to what you're looking for by clicking the link and having a full page of items instead of just showing maybe 6 things under one link.i know most people sign and look at what they see, they don't go to more and see what had been posted before that they missed and it's also the reason i believe so many people make a lot of post and bump things all the time.just my opinion of course, but i have talked with several people who don't even come to the site as much becasue of the new look,it doesn't bother me,i have it figured out,but i'm not gonna go to more at every link either,i scan the page and then that's it.

Okay I understand where the two of you are coming from, however then people like ME who only post once like the rules say get bumped off the front page within an hour of posting. And most people do not go to the second page to look. So I feel you all are punishing me for following the rules and that you feel your stuff is that much more important than mine. I am not trying to be rude at all, but do you see my point. Every where you go there are rules, and this is just another place for them. So if we got all the regular posters to follow the rules I am sure people would catch on that they need to look at peoples posts more than once. I really hope I did not offend anyone I am just really frustrated with the fact that I take my time to post and come back a little later to see my post archived because people have posted 2-3 posts. If I get bumped because it is a busy day and people are only posting once than that is totally fine.

This really isn't the type of thing we're seeing more of. Your situation happens to me also. What I do is copy my original post into a new discussion the next day and then add in whatever is new. Once a day is perfectly fine, whether it's a brand new post or a bump to an old one.

What's been happening lately is there will be 10 posts from the same person in the same hour, listing each item they have for sale separately. They don't see it as a big deal if they have only that many items but imagine if all of us did that.

I'm also happy to see so many newbies to the board and just wanted to be sure they read all the info regarding the board and how things worked.

i agree with people not posting 3-4 items under one section.my idea was that have the different sections listed and you click on one you want to look at and have a full page, not just 6 items under one post becasue no one hardly sees post that have gone to the next page from so many posts.see what i mean?say you come to the site and you have iso,for sale or trade, blah blah.you click the iso and it pulls up a page with a lot of posts, not just come on here and have everything on one page, that's the only page most will go to,so if there's a lot of posts,no one is gonna see yours.see what i mean.anyway i don't know,it's just an idea.i myself think this board is very helpfull because i can post my auctions on here and i have a lot of lookers,i have sold some items and i am in the process of a trade with a lady,so i know people see what you post,i guess the thing is,they lok for what they want and sometimes what we post, they don't need, but eventually they may.the thing is there will always be someone not following the rules, mainly because i'm sure a lot of people haven't even read this post about the rules.i wasn't trying to make it where your item wouldn't be seen,i was trying to think of a way that our items would be seen more when people come to the site.

I agree with the overposting thing, and while I've bought and sold some things here I'm still sort of a "newbie" I guess, although I've been posting on the Sept 2001 babies board since 9/01. My concern/question is that there are SO many people posting items that inevitably my posts (any many others) get bumped to the archives within a day. I suppose I'm guilty lately of posting my same FS stuff a few times in one week. But we are moving and I've been unsuccessful on Ebay. I don't know of many boards like this and I find it a valuable place to buy and sell things. But is there a way to add more "space" on the main board so that people don't feel like their stuff isn't even being looked at? I guess that's my main concern right now. I realize that everyone is in the same boat, we're all eager to clean house and get rid of our stuff. But it's hard to sell things when the board only allows "x" number of visible posts per category. Does anyone know what I mean? Any suggestions would be helpful. TIA,

Nancy
