A recent study has found a link between ADHD and depression, here is a link for more information: http://www.ivillage.com/there-link-between-adhd-and-depression-kids/6-a-288614?ice=iv:mb:msg:mm.

I know that my dh and I really watch my son's negativity, he can be very down on life in general, so we try to work with him on that.

This information (via the link on the IVillage page) is important for people to know if their child is at higher risk than average too - particularly those children of mothers who were diagnosed with depression.

Definitely have seen the risk ourselves. Our seven-year-old has ADHD, depression and OCD (in remission currently). He took Celexa when his OCD was at its peak and we now use it for the depression. It's made a big difference. No more glass-half-empty attitude that sucked the joy out of everything. We're so glad he was already seeing a psychiatrist for treatment for the ADHD to catch the other conditions, too.

My son is 10 & I worry about him getting depressed. He will say he hates this world (even has our 4 year old saying it sigh),hates his life and one time said he'd rather be dead (he didn't meant it-was frustrated but we are still starting counsling for him).I don't want him to even get depressed/sad.The signs in kids can be so different than adults. He loves playing outside and is so happy with his friends but seems worried when he's at home/has quiet time or nothing to do.He doesn't talk a ton and rarely shares even fun stories. You know how most boys/men are! It's hard as a parent to know what's normal and not.
