With spring sports starting up registration, I thought a thread discussing the sports that have been the best fit for our ADHD kids might be suitable ;)

What types of sports have you found the most beneficial for kids with ADHD?

Mine did extremely well with team Sports, Softball. I also coach a team of girls and have kids that range from ADHD/in, to Bipolar, ASD's . They are all doing well, although the older girls tend to be more "team players".

I can say that if your kid has ADHD, or any disorder, it is IMPERATIVE for the coach to know this, it's a safety issue along with a coaching issue. I need to know why your kid is picking flowers in left field, I would probably put them in a base position or infield, more action to hold their attention.

My son does karate in a small class and it is going very well. We also do soccer, but it only meets on Saturdays from 9:30-11:00, with half the time practice and the other half breaking into teams and playing. I also have to coach at least one weekend during the season for his team, and I have to say his is the hardest for me to coach as it is hard for me to not correct him when he is rolling on the ground or looking the other way during practice. During games he does pretty well.

My son currently started swimming. it seems to be helping a lot with his ADHD. swimming, per doctor, gets his brain cells going as well as his body going, and is something that he can control and that he can improve while depending on no one! so it gives him a great sense of self
