Another Newbie with med question (Tenex)

We are about to start Tenex to see if we can get some help with focus. DS is six and has anxiety issues to beat the crowd. Zoloft has been VERY helpful over the past year. Now that he (and we) know what "normal" is or close to it, we are ready to try to work on focus in school. We are willing to try this during the last quarter of school because that is where we are most likely to see a change in the focus.

Any exeperience, ideas or information on the Tenex would be helpful (We will keep him on Zoloft until we see if the Tenex is working. At that point we will make the call to remove the Zoloft or not)

THANKS

Our son took Tenex at age three when he had strong indicators of ADHD but was too young for the better medications. It's extremely mild and obviously safe enough for very young kids. Unfortunately, in our case, it had all the value of water and didn't do anything. However, results with any medications can vary dramatically by child, so it may work wonders in your case. Just know that Tenex is way down there on the mild scale.

What did work for your son? It is always good for me to look and think ahead.

I don't mind starting mild and hopefully my optimisim will pay-off?!?!!?

Thanks for your answer and honesty.

Ritalin is what worked dramatically for our son. We knew on day one that it was a winner. He was so focused, pleasant and able to control his energy. He's now on an extended release form called Concerta.

Best of luck to you! Hope Tenex helps.

Hi, and welcome!

DD took tenex for a couple of weeks, we had to stop it due to Blood pressure drops. It did nothing for focus, but it did help her sleep. She has had amazing results with Concerta though.

A child may HAVE ADHD, but it is not what they ARE. Never tell a child they ARE ADHD.

Concerta is in the stimulant family, right? Because of anxiety issues we are trying to avoid the irritability side-effect. Any other ideas?

Yes, Concerta is methylphenidate, just like Ritalin.

Tenex is a Blood pressure med, and although it does not generally help focus, it might with your child. Straterra is another one that is not a stim, but helps with focus.

.My son's psychiatrist doesn't believe in Tenex unless it is really bad. We have done great with my son taking Concerta and Zoloft for anxiety.
