Anyone tried flaxseed oil for ADHD?

DD saw something about this as a complimentary ttreatment.  So far in my research it looks like the jury's still out, but it has some other health benefits that would keep it  from being a total loss even if it doesn't do anything for the ADHD.  Just haven't seen anything as far as dosage for kids.  Don't want to overload him, but don't want to give him to little either. 

In that same vein, he's back taking multi-vitamins & this time I got him one that has extra of the Omega (3/6?) as I know that can affect brain activity.  I take supplements & can tell the difference when I haven't been taking them regularly.

I first was told about Omega-3 by my old sitter, she had attended a seminar as part of her continuing education for her daycar license and they were talking about  a correlation of attention in kids when weaned off breastmilk when they were getting the DHA from their mom's milk and then not being supplemented for it afterwards, their attention and focus tended to head south.  Here are a few good articles on it, in general, if you get the flaxseed that is a ratio of more Omega 3 to lower Omega 6, that is better overall.  we moved my middle daughter who tends to be more hyperactive to a mostly gluten free diet and we use natural supplements and include an Omega-3 for her each day and we have definitely seen a difference in her overal behavior and focus over the last 6 months that we have been working with her on it.

I noticed with my son that when I have him on a gluten free diet that he does a lot better concentration wise. The trick is, staying gluten free when he doesn't have an upset stomach like many with celiac's have. He is not quiet understanding fully why he needs it.

Thanks! We were ahead of the game on the food dyes--aeons ago they'd told my sister to cut red dyes out of my now 30 yo nephew's diet  to improve his behavior issues (he's since been dx'd ADHD as an adult), so we knew to watch that.  DD is big in healthy eating, so we're trying to eat more fresh and Lord knows I've got the time to cook (and love to do it) as long as my health holds.  LOL-if I can get some trees cut in the backyard so it's not so shady, we hope to be growing a lot of our own veggies!  Marci

That's an interesting theory.  I do throw flaxseeds in if I think about it when I'm baking,  but it's more for my one boy who has borderline high cholesterol.   I believe a little flaxseed goes a long way, so you wouldn't want to overdo it.  I think you'll have more benefits from giving him the Omega.  You can also try cutting out processed foods and food dyes, than can help with some kids.
